Former Polk County resident Karen Olivo, above, won a Tony Award for her role as Anita in the revival of Leonard Bernstein's‘West Side Story’ on Broadway.
She won her award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical.



Olivo also starred in last year’s Tony Award-winning musical “In the Heights. CONGRATULATIONS!

Also in TONYS NEWS, actress Angela Lansbury has won a Tony Award as the medium in "Blithe Spirit". It is her fifth Tony in forty three years having won for "Mame" (1966), "Dear World" (1969), "Gypsy" (1975) and "Sweeney Todd" (1979). She has lost only one race for the Tony, when she competed for best lead actress in a play for "Deuce" two years ago.

American journalists Euna Lee,36, left, and Laura Ling,32, are convicted a 'grave crime' against the nation, and of illegally crossing into North Korea, and sentenced to 12 years in labor prison. The women were arrested March 17 along the China-North Korean border after top North Korean officials said they had encroached on North Korean soil while reporting a story on human trafficking for Current TV. U.S. officials have demanded release of the two women. Reuters notes the sentence came after US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the United States is considering once again putting North Korea on the list of state sponsors of terrorism which would result in further financial sanctions against North Korea.
